RADIO: Three years radio experience in Wilmington, N. C., first as a weekly guest to discuss college basketball and later all sports, then co-host of the “SportsWAAV” on WAAV AM-980, and most recently as host of the “Andrew Jones Show” on ESPN Radio WMFD AM-630.

Achieved highest rating ever at WAAV in spring Arbitron ratings in 2001 for the 7-9 p.m. time slot. Had tremendous success in building credibility for ESPN Radio in Wilmington in its second year of existence. Show ended in November of 2002 so I could more closely cover the University of North Carolina and ACC football and basketball for the Wilmington Star-News.

Regular bit commentator on ACC football and basketball and professional sports on three stations: AM-1390 Triangle Sports Radio and AM 850 “The Buzz” in Raleigh, and WMFD in Wilmington, including in-studio appearances, and occasional national stations.

PRINT JOURNALIST: Currently in sixth year with the Wilmington Star-News. Spent nearly five years as a copy editor (and layout) and staff writer. Main focus has been the ACC and for the last two years have been the primary writer covering the ACC for the Star-News, the sixth largest newspaper in the state with a daily circulation of nearly 60,000. In 2003 began writing for national publications Basketball Times and Eastern Basketball.

Covered the 2005 NCAA men's basketball championship including Charlotte Sub-Regional, Syracuse Regional and Final Four in St. Louis. Since Summer 2004, writes 5-times weekly sports blog ("ACC Insider") for Star News. For Star-News, each week writes two “ACC Notebooks,” a column, cover as many games as possible (game stories, sidebars, notebooks) and do feature stories, weekly reports cards for each of the nine schools and do pre-game capsules and predictions for every game UNC, Duke, Wake Forest and N.C. State play in football and basketball. Prediction record in football in 2003 was 31-13. For the 2004-05 ACC basketball season was 103-31. Other activities covered include the Baltimore Orioles and 2003 Baseball Hall of Fame introductions.

Wrote for Inside Carolina magazine and website for seven years covering UNC football and basketball. Advancing to the senior writer position, wrote game stories and other postgame information such as game notes and locker room reports, a “Good & Bad” after every UNC football and basketball game, feature stories and columns, and in the off-season a weekly “AJ’s Monday Musings.” Left the publication in mid-2003 to concentrate on Star-News duties and return to radio. For three years was the main writer for ACCNews (1999-2001). Covered games, wrote columns, feature stories, report cards, team analyses, and a weekly Top 30 for both football and basketball.

From 1995-2000 ran my own publication and website initially covering all sports, later focusing on college sport, the Washington, D. C. area and Wilmington. Over the years, numerous articles have been picked up by Yahoo Sports and specialized team websites. Have written for the ACC Handbook annual basketball preview magazine Have covered more than 500 sporting events, including college basketball (ACC, Big East, Atlantic 10, Colonial), college football (ACC), major league baseball, PGA, ATP, MLS, and other, smaller sports.

PREVIOUSLY: Worked in computers (computerized business systems, network engineering) before deciding to chase personal dream of working in sports media in the mid-1990s.
